FEATURES

The Exploratorium is a Pa Department of Human Services regulated child care provider. Prior to opening, the home and grounds underwent a safety overhaul. Both adults living in the home obtained physicals and 3 background checks to ensure that all families served will be healthy and safe. As a licensed Child Care Home, we are subject to annual inspections to ensure that basic health and safety measures are followed.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements outlined by the state, The Exploratorium opted to enroll in Keystone STARS. This program helps early childcare providers to reach for higher standards of care, and helps families find a quality program in their area. Providers in Keystone STARS must have more training, and undergo additional inspections that focus on the educational quality of the early childhood environment.

See how we fill our day!

Whether we're inside or outside, the focus is on play! Learning happens naturally throughout the day. So many skills are mastered from language and social interaction, to math and physics, to arts and health and fitness. Technology is a wonderful tool, and there are many educational apps and games available to enhance our otherwise off-screen activities. However, screen time is kept to a minimum during the week. With so much else to fill our days, we have no time left to veg in front of tablets or TVs!

Healthy kids play and learn best. That's why healthy snacks are provided each day, and everyone is encouraged to drink plenty of water. Parents are asked to send in healthy lunches full of food that will keep their explorer's energy going strong. Sugary snacks and drinks are discouraged on a regular basis.

We are located on an acre lot across from Marion Elementary and within walking distance to Washington Township Ballfields. Walks around the neighborhood often include a stop at a playground for some climbing, swinging and sliding. We have a 2500 sq ft fenced-in yard for safe outdoor play on site.

A mini-arboretum is growing around our fenced-in play yard. A variety of trees and flowers add to our natural science lessons, and will provide shade as they grow. We are able to enjoy bird watching year-round through our many large windows and sliding doors.

Behind the house, we have a garden with a special addition: chickens! The children love to help check for eggs each day, and the chickens get excited when the children bring snacks for them.
